Is your Insurance Agent being held Captive?

3/6/2010 1:00:00 PM

If your agent is with State Farm, Farmers or Allstate the answer is YES! A “captive” agent is an agent who works for one carrier, like these guys. He or she sells only the policies offered by their one carrier. So if State Farm decides to be competitive in zip code 99999, then the captive agents in that area will be competitive. But if the carrier’s rates are not competitive there, well, you’re paying too much.

An Independent Agent, like Purves & Associates, is not bound by any single carrier. In fact, we don’t work for any insurance company – we work for our customers. The value that an Independent Agent provides is that we can shop your policies and discover who the most competitive carrier is for you. And if your policy is with us and you get an increase, we can move you from one carrier to the next. We know which carriers have the deepest discounts, which carrier has the best teen driver rates and which carrier is best for an older home.

Don’t get us wrong, we have friends who work for Allstate and they’re nice people. But when you see them offer “great rates on CD’s” it’s because their insurance rates stink. Contact us today at (800) 681-2025, or click here, and we’ll make sure you get the best deal possible!
