Those lucky souls who have never had to file a claim may often wonder what they're paying for when they send in their premium check to the insurance company. Not all renter's insurance is created equal. Just because you're paying a premium doesn't mean all of your needs will be covered when an accident happens.

And, I thought, what's the point of saving up for a car and getting a license if you can't drive your friends around and have fun?

College students living in the dorms can count on their renters insurance to kick in when appliances kick the bucket and spark a fire. Faulty appliances are often the source of dormitory fires, and it pays to be prepared in case smoke or fire sprinkler water damages the personal property you have in your room.
